“Something like that should not be forgotten,” says the grandpa: “Not today and not in a thousand years.”

Such a great -grandfather like circus director Georg Frank you wish every child! He gives his great-grandchild Santino the important message: “You have to do everything with love.” The third film of the Badabum duo Anna Koch and Julia Lemke, two former students of the DFFB, also became visibly love and unconventional look made on everyday circus life.
The title -giving circus child Santino has a huge family that he can always count on. Of course, there are of course the parents of the bright boy, the aerial acrobat Angie, who is expecting her third child and stays on the ground for as long, and his multitalized dad Gitano. There is also his animal crazy brother Giordano, Grandma and Grandpa as well as countless uncle and aunts, cousins. Their cohesion and mutual tolerance make the documentary from the age of seven in times of social split, even a touching parabola about the cornerstone of human coexistence – for every age league.
The film, which was structured in the seasons and is sensitive by Julia Lemke, begins in spring, on Santino’s eleventh birthday. Finally he gets the long-awaited motorcross bike that is tuned down to 20 km/h as a precaution. Inevitably you have to remember how many helicopter parents would probably trust your child to deal with such a gift. In terms of self -efficacy, you can also learn from the circus people in terms of self -efficacy. So when building up, the children are allowed to swing the sledge hammer or climb at dizzying heights.

Grandpa marriage tells what Santino calls his beloved Uropa, of his first appearance in the ring – at the age of five. We see this of Magda Kreps and Lea Majeran, who is winking, who spread a pleasant program with the feeling of mouse. The grandpa later also describes how he met his wife Isolde and from the mighty elephant Sahib, whom his family once had. He was 52 years old and traveled around the world as a sensation. When Grandpa marriage, who sometimes slept at Sahib in winter, says “it was one of us,” you can feel that these are not hollow words. Animal dressage in the circus is seen critically today, and the film briefly illuminates this aspect.
At the beginning of the film, the grandfather Santino indicates that it is slowly time to think about what he wants to show in the ring. Its follow -up about it runs like an invisible thread through this documentary, which was funded by the “The Special Children’s Film” initiative. Also on Santino’s birthday, it is like every evening: freely. Santino and his brother must of course help by selling magic rods and carrying out tasks during the performance.
The circus life between caravans, rehearsals, tent and reduction and feeding and feeding of the animals naturally also has its dark side: in every new city the boy has to imagine again in the local school and try to find connection. Grandpa marriage and Santino’s father tell that at their time they have learned nothing at school and that circus children have often been treated like leper by the teachers. They are inevitably pass on the thick fur that you have to buy towards the prejudices of people. Grandpa talks before in child -friendly words and corresponding animations of the Nazi era, in which Jews, but also Sinti and Roma were outlawed and kidnapped. His mother, a Sinti, had to hide, the whole family of his brother -in -law was murdered in Auschwitz. “Something like that should not be forgotten,” the grandpa closes its memories. “Not today and not in a thousand years.”
But the Nazis could not end the 200 -year -old tradition of this circus family. The world -famous Circus Frankello, who was expropriated in the GDR, once belonged to the Uropa, married father, which one would have liked to learn more about. The extended family fled to the west and Georg Frank founded the Circus Arena, which with this sympathetic film is a thoughtful honorary monument.
