It is a story of close closeness and gradual distance. Of a strong connection and a decided rejection. Maybe not unusual for a mother-son story. The concrete circumstances are unusual: Fatma, the mother, came to Germany from Turkey, in anticipation of a better life for your child; Dinçer, the son, was born in Germany and first looking for his own place in society.

“Our fairy tale”, based on the award-winning novel by Dinçer Güçyeter, has staged director Hakan Savaş Mican at the Berlin Maxim Gorki Theater. Now the evening can be seen at the theater meeting. Under his director Shermin Langhoff, the Gorki has become known to show opposing perspectives, often (post-) migrant to show the stories of the majority society.

In this sign there is also “our fairy tale”. Sesede Terziyan and Taner Şahintürk play the mother and son on touching, but by no means humor. In addition to the two ensemble members, music plays the third leading role. Great feelings, a big story. But also a big theater evening?

The moving story, which is not very fairytale, is told us close to the template on stage. It is also a successful evening that doesn’t leave cold. But it is just a rock -solid piece of theater art that is remembered because of its content, not an exciting aesthetic setting that would be expected at the theater meeting.

In this regard, the staging is comparable to Jan Friedrich’s Magdeburg work »Bloodbook« (according to the novel by Kim de l’Horizon), which was also invited to the theater meeting and was shown twice last weekend. First the autofictional, the artistic radius of one’s own self, has conquered literature. Now the theater trends as if the performing art was only the extended arm of the book market.

We are also shown an outsider perspective in »Bloodbook«, namely that of a nonininarian person. It is a great mother-mother-child story that has now found a scenic equivalent. But the theater is also only in the service of the literature without playing its own strengths towards the foreign genre. The novels provide the art, the stage feels like the atmospheric only on the other evening. In the case of »Bloodbook«, the staging even loses a purely illustrative. Too bad.

Presentations at the theater meeting: 10. and 11.5. (The staging can also be seen in full length in the 3sat media library.)
