“Because it belongs!” – 31. Viennese refugee ball, festival of diversity and lived solidarity

A ball for whom? For all! The Viennese refugee ball has stood for a lived culture of encounter and peaceful cooperation since 1995. On April 5, 2025, the integration house invites you to this unique event in the Vienna City Hall for the 31st time. An evening full of music, dance and cohesion – beyond asylum policy and migration debates. The event is much more than a ball – it is a strong signal for humanity and solidarity. In view of the current challenges for those seeking protection, the integration house remains loyal to its mission: “Refugees are more confronted with legal and social pressure. The waiting times for asylum decisions are long, social cuts take their perspective. But Vienna shows that integration is possible – and the refugee ball is a sign of this attitude”says Susanne Lettner and Martin Wurzenrainer, managing director of the integration house.

Willi Resetarits Prize is awarded for the second time

For the second time, the city of Vienna is awarding the Willi Resetarits Prize at the refugee ball. In memory of the initiator of the integration house and exceptional artist Willi Resetarits, the prize was awarded for the first time in the 2024 refugee ball. This awarded award is awarded to musicians who are committed to musicians who are involved in their artistic life and work for integration and cooperation in Vienna. A jury, composed of art -creating and civil society, people from the environment of Willi Resetarits, investigates the winners under the direction of the integration house. The award was awarded to the upcoming refugee ball City Councilor Verena Kaup-Hasler and the first award winner, Vusa Mkhaya.

Line-up: From the ´Graminern´ to the Congolese Rumba

It can be danced again! This year, too, the refugee ball offers a musical journey around the world on two stages and at the open-air disco in the Arkadenhof. Among them are the Gewürztraminer´, the ´nadara Transylvanian Gypsy Band´ and ´nsinsani´ with Congolese rhythms. In addition, Mehdi Chamma, Pavel Shalman & Boki Radenkovic feat. The evening is opened by the Vladigeroff Brothers. The income benefits the work of the integration house.

Dress code: clothing arbitrarily, but desired!

Traditionally there is no fixed dress code – whether festive, casual or traditional – every clothing style is welcome. The ball is an opportunity to celebrate exuberant and at the same time set a sign of a solidary society. Or, to say it in the words of Willi Resetarits: “Because it’s going to be!
