Thanks to the collaboration with the Mozarteum Salzburg Foundation and new cooperation with the Teatro del Giglio “Giacomo Puccini”, the conservatorio “Luigi Boccherini” and the Puccini Museum in Lucca, an original gear from Mozart and the original wing of Giacomo Puccini will be heard together for the first time.

Puccini original wing

The Puccini piano in the Puccini Museum in Lucca is a valuable exhibit in the birthplace of the world-famous composer Giacomo Puccini. It is an original piano from Steinway & Sons, on which Puccini composed parts of his last opera “Turandot”. The museum keeps the original furniture and numerous personal objects of the composer and gives up the atmosphere of his childhood and youth. The piano is a central symbol for Puccini’s musical work and its connection to the hometown Lucca. The wing (model B-211, serial number 98606) was bought by Giacomo Puccini in the spring of 1901.

Another highlight is the premiere of a symphony by the composer Marianna Bottini (1802–1858), a musician from Lucca who was already included in the Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna at the age of 18 – 50 years after Mozart. The work of Antonio Salieri, companion of Mozart, is also given special space – exactly in the commemorative year of his 200th death.

“I am particularly fascinated by ‘Bella Musica’, with which enthusiasm young people are introduced to the music of Mozart, to his life, work and trips. This basic cultural and European project reflects the values of the University of Mozarteum Salzburg in the best way. Elisabeth Gutjahr, Rector of the University of Mozarteum Salzburg

Under the artistic direction of Stefan David Hummel, the “Bella Musica” project is a commitment to Europe’s cultural heritage, supported by respect, diversity and peace. In view of the current tensions, the tour sets a clear sign of exchange, cohesion and a Europe that builds on dialogue and mutual appreciation.

“With Bella Musica we would like to combine people through music – across borders, cultures and generations. The Spirit Mozart inspires us to promote young talents and show them how music can strengthen and give hope. Central values for us are respect, diversity and cooperation. By approaching others and using music as a common language, we would like to build bridges – for open Europe and a lively coexistence.” Stefan David Hummel, initiator and artistic director
