Bayernwerk Netz GmbH and the Traunstein general company Maxsolar signed the service contract on the use of the first network -useful memory at a distribution network operator in Germany last Monday. With the termination of the tender procedure, the granting of the surcharge and the conclusion of the contract, the way for the construction of this prototype in Wutzldorf (district of Cham) is free.
Bayernwerk Netz GmbH, which belongs to the E.ON group, is the first distribution network operator in Germany. After the successful coordination with the Federal Network Agency last year and the tender procedure under more than 100 bidders, which runs between January and the end of March 2025, the Maxsolar GmbH was awarded. The associated service contract has now been signed by the two partners in Munich.
“Today is not only a big day for Maxsolar and the Bayernwerk, but also for our energy future. Because with the newly developed logic of the network-related memory, we maximize the economic benefits from both electricity market and electricity network perspective for our network customers. We are ringing a new phase of integration of large batteries into the power supply system,” says Dr. Nick Seeger, Managing Director of Bayernwerk Netz.
In future, Maxsolar will operate the 5 megawatt large battery with a capacity of 25 megawatt hours available over the entire contract term according to the requirements regulated in the service contract. This essentially includes the daily and seasonal requirements in order to relieve targeted shortages. For example, it is a requirement to load the memory at times with high solar production and, conversely, to discharge into the network of the Bayernwerk with high reference services. Maxsolar is already in intensive discussions with the municipality of Wutzldorf and will now continue the construction planning. Faster and cheaper in certain places than network expansion
From the point of view of the Bayernwerk Netz, the network -useful operation of storage enables the high network load to be mastered in the peak times of renewable energies. This can be specifically reduced the network expansion requirement, which contributes to a faster and more cost -efficient transformation of the energy system. In the end, this benefits all customers of the Bayernwerk Netz. If the storage insert is defined by the distribution network operator, it can use the flexibility and dissolve local network bottlenecks. By storing energy for feed -in tips, additional generation systems can be integrated into the network without further strengthening or expanding the network. Furthermore, memory improve the network quality by reducing voltage fluctuations.
The high participation in the tender and the marketable service fee show that the market can meet the requirements. Bayernwerk is now transferring this and other findings from the pilot project to the determination and tender for further locations. While the construction planning is running for the premiere of the first network -useful memory, the Bayernwerk is already working in parallel at other possible locations for further network -useful storage. Similar to the first procedure, the network operator will also do tenders.
