Baumit also relies on green electricity in Peggau

Peggau/Wopfing (OTS) –

Around 1,200 photovoltaic cells were installed on the roof of the Baumit palletizing hall in Peggau in 2023, with a module area of around 2,350 m2 and an output of 510 kWp. The system should have delivered an annual yield of 560,000 kWh of electricity as early as 2024. A year later than planned, the PV system went online. 25 percent of the electricity requirements at the Baumit Peggau site are now covered by self-generated green electricity, which is roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of 100 households. Due to new legal requirements, an additional data line had to be laid. This has significantly increased the investment costs.

“Although the photovoltaic system was technically completed in December 2023, it was only now connected to the grid! The reasons for this are long waiting times for the network operator who has to release the system, as well as stricter legal requirements through the so-called Cyber Security Directive (NIS 2). Not only did the originally planned investment costs increase noticeably, but we also had to purchase the electricity that was not generated at a high price,” Manfred Tisch, technical managing director of Baumit GmbH, criticizes “the burdensome and anti-business bureaucracy”.

“We are all the more pleased that we are now also producing green electricity at our location in Styria. Despite the winter months, we are confident that our solar system can benefit from numerous hours of sunshine even in the cold season.”, adds Gerhard Philipp, Baumit Environmental and Process Engineering.
