Bank Austria: 3.5 million photo transfers in 2023

14 million photo transfer since launch in 2017

Vienna (OTS) UniCredit Bank Austria customers have already transferred bills or payment orders more than 3.5 million times in the past year simply using a cell phone photo – without the hassle of entering IBAN, intended use or payment reference.

“With photo transfer, we have been the only bank in Austria to offer our customers the opportunity to transfer paper bills and payment instructions easily using a photo since 2017,” says Daniela Barco, Board Member for Private Customers at UniCredit Bank Austria. “The fact that our customers made 3.5 million photo transfers last year shows the success of this project. More and more customers are appreciating the advantages of photo transfers in the MobileBanking app and we see the number of users increasing every month.”

In February 2024, over 340,000 customers used photo transfer – an increase of more than 11 percent compared to the previous year. Since the introduction of photo transfer, 14 million transactions have been carried out using it.

Simple, fast and secure transfer via smartphone: a photo is enough
UniCredit Bank Austria customers can easily pay paper bills, as well as reminders and payment instructions, using their smartphone with just a few clicks. All you have to do is take a photo of the document – the MobileBanking app takes care of the rest. Thanks to the photo transfer, it is neither necessary to have a payment slip or a QR code in front of you, nor do you have to separately scan the IBAN or intended purpose fields required for the transfer.

The software uses artificial intelligence to recognize all the necessary information on an invoice with a single photo and automatically fills out the transfer form. This eliminates the need for time-consuming typing of payment-relevant data. The customers finally approve the payment – as usual – in the MobileBanking app.
