Vienna (OTS) –
Club of Vienna awards Viennese Rupert Riedl Prize
With the Vienna Rupert Riedl Prize, the Club of Vienna supports young scientists whose work is related to evolutionary epistemology, of which Rupert Riedl is considered the founder. This year’s winner is Stephan Köstlbacher, who is being honored for his dissertation on chlamydia at the University of Vienna.
Chlamydia are important pathogens in humans, but species that are harmless to humans are widespread in the environment. The work shows the diversity of chlamydia and their lifestyle and reconstructs the genetic framework of the ancestors of chlamydia over a billion years ago. This research thus makes an important contribution to a better understanding of the origin and development of bacterial pathogens.
