Award ceremony and vernissage of the best wind power photos 2024

Together with exclusive partner Wien Energie and media partner NÖN, IG Windkraft organized the fourth wind power photo competition this year with over 630 submissions. “Wind turbines in the landscape are a symbol of freedom and independence. They are part of Austria’s cultural landscape and are a landmark or tourist magnet in many places. Life takes place in and around the wind farm,” explains Florian Maringer, managing director of IG Windkraft: “People, animals and plants live with the wind farms and benefit directly or indirectly from them.”

Selecting the winners from the numerous high-quality entries in 7 categories was a challenge for this year’s expert jury. Among the over 630 submissions, the best photos were honored for their creative achievements at the award ceremony in the customer center by exclusive partner Wien Energie. A total of over 30 participants can look forward to prizes. The three photos with the most points overall also received a ceremonial presentation of an ÖVF medal (in gold, silver or bronze). “It was a pleasure and a challenge at the same time to evaluate the submitted photos. The quality delivered was very high and the selection was therefore difficult,” says Anselm F. Wunderer from the ÖVF.

The award ceremony took place during the opening at the Wien Energie customer center in Spittelau. Amateur and professional photographers were able to engage with wind power visually and creatively in seven very different categories. The main prizes were awarded in the following categories:

1. “My” wind farm and me

2. NÖN special category: Wind Shots (also cell phone photography)

3. Work in the wind farm

4. Nature in the wind farm

5. Leisure in the wind farm

6. With the wind turbine at eye level

7. Windspirationen powered by Canon

“We are pleased that this year we can once again present the best images from the 2024 wind power photo competition to the public at the Vienna Energy Service Center Spittelau. It’s worth stopping by and admiring the lively life in the wind farm,” says Michael Strebl, Chairman of the Wien Energie Management Board, adding: “Wien Energie already operates 89 wind turbines and also has collaborations with other energy suppliers, so it offers numerous venues for breathtaking wind power -Pictures.”

Marvel at the winner’s photos

All top-ranked photos can be admired in the Wien Energie customer center at Spittelauer Lände 45, 1090 Vienna until February 2025. The photos are accessible free of charge Monday to Thursday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Wind energy in harmony with people, nature and the environment

In Austria, 1,426 wind turbines currently generate clean electricity for 2.39 million households every year, saving as much CO2 as 1.8 million cars emit. “This year’s photo competition shows once again that wind turbines not only generate clean electricity and are where life takes place, but that they are also aesthetic,” concludes Antonia Gusenbauer, project coordinator of the 2024 wind power photo competition.
