Vienna (OTS) – SPORTUNION Austria cordially invites interested media to take part in our press conference on March 7, 2024, where we, together with SPORTUNION Austria President Peter McDonald and patron Carina Schrempf, will present the successful results of the “Young Athletes” youth development program for competitive sports as well as together with a will present the young athlete with an outlook for 2024.
One year after the launch of this groundbreaking program, we draw positive conclusions and present the success stories that come through „Young Athletes” were made possible. President Peter McDonald: „ ‚Young Athletes’ has become a flagship project for the SPORTUNION.” Looking back at the initial situation a year ago, we remember that the Austrian sports landscape faced major challenges and still does today: The lack of gold medals in alpine skiing World Cup and only two bronze medals at the Junior World Championships raised alarm bells in 2023. In individual sports, the drop-out rate among 14 to 19 year olds is now as high as 90 percent.
SPORTUNION has recognized that the key to success lies in the youth sector. MC Donald: “With ‘Young Athletes’, we have launched a multi-sport promotion program for young talent that aims to sustainably strengthen Austria’s competitive sports.
“One year after the start, we can already record our first successes and are pleased to be able to present them at the press conference and, together with a young participant, take a look at the second year of “Young Athletes” (launch event: March 9, 2024).
