In June, Environment Minister Gewessler approved the renaturation law, thereby enabling the decisive decision at EU level, whereupon the ÖVP reported her for abuse of office. The ad sparked a government dispute in the already tense political situation. The case is currently being examined by the Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA). The author and lawyer Dr. Sven Hartberger has filed a criminal complaint for defamation and abuse of official authority against high-ranking ÖVP politicians. The advertisements create a confusing legal situation. In the press conference we would like to discuss the criminal law issues in connection with the two criminal complaints with Univ.-Prof. Dr. Robert Kert speak. What are the consequences of the advertisements? How does the legal expert assess the complaint against Gewessler for abuse of office? Why was Gewessler’s yes to the renaturation law so important for environmental and climate protection?

Dr. Sven Hartberger has filed a criminal complaint for defamation and abuse of official authority against Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Federal Minister Karoline Edtstadler, Secretary General Christian Stocker, head of the Constitutional Service Albert Posch and unknown accomplices.
The renaturation law is part of the biodiversity strategy of the EU Green Deal. It obliges member states to restore damaged ecosystems by 2050. This ensures long-term positive effects on the environment and effective climate protection.
