Vienna (OTS) – December is the most important month of the financial year for the majority of Austrian retailers. The absolute additional sales that result from this Christmas business achieved increased steadily from 2015 to 2020 (i.e. before the corona pandemic). However, Christmas sales fell significantly during the pandemic. This year, Austrian dealers don’t just have to buy real ones Declines in sales and an omnipresent one Labor shortage but also significant ones Cost increases in energy, procurement, personnel, logistics, rents and borrowed capital.
How does all of this affect sales in the 2023 Christmas business? What role to play Advent markets as well as the special shopping days Black Friday & Cyber Monday? What importance does the domestic one have? eCommerce as well as the Online retailers from third countries this year? And what prognosis can be made for this? Fiscal year 2024 derive?
On Thursday, December 14th, present the Trade Association and that Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO) together the traditional Forecast for Christmas business as well as one Full-year balance sheet for the crisis year 2023. In addition, the results of a current Dealer flash survey as well as the annual one consumer-side “Consumer Check” study presented, which in cooperation with MindTake Research was carried out. In this way, both the retailer and the consumer side can be taken into account and a holistic outlook on the nationwide Christmas business – stationary and online – can be given. Regional or state-specific differences are also discussed in the press conference.
