“Austria – The whole story”: the start of the most comprehensive ORF history series

First of four seasons from December 27th in the ORF III Christmas program

Vienna (OTS) Great moments and drastic events have influenced the course of Austrian history, as have special ideas, outstanding thoughts and social upheavals. The new, 40-part ORF III series “Austria – The Whole History” tells the history of the country from its beginnings to the present and illuminates the big questions of the respective era. The first season of the four-year prestige project extends from the first mention of Austria by name as Ostarrichi in 996 to the 18th century. “Austria – The Whole Story” is presented by the ORF presenters Andreas Pfeifer and Mariella Gittler. Starting from today’s major issues, they look for answers in the past.

As the heart of this year’s ORF III Christmas program, viewers can look forward to all ten episodes of the first season: On Wednesday, December 27, 2023, the series will celebrate its TV premiere with “Warrior and Builder” (8:15 p.m.): The first episode is about the clearing of Austria’s jungle and the beginning of the domestic infrastructure, which took place in the Middle Ages parallel to the Crusade period. “The Reign of Hunger” follows from 9:05 p.m.: The second episode of the new series examines the encirclement of Vienna by the Habsburg Rudolf I in the fall of 1276, while the approximately 20,000 people trapped were cut off from their food supply.

From Thursday, December 28th, the remaining episodes of the first season will be on the schedule from 8:15 p.m.:
“The Master Thief” and “Birth Pains of a Global City” (December 28th), “Hostages of the Cold” and “Big Money” (December 29th), “The Witch Trial” and “Patient Zero” (January 2nd) and “ The Golden Apple” and “On the Scaffold of Freedom” (January 3rd).
