Children and young people are the main victims of this conflict. Every day they are confronted with images of suffering, loss, violence and hardship that could cause severe trauma and stay with them throughout their lives. The support of the Austrian government is an important contribution to ensuring that aid organizations like us as UNICEF can provide vital humanitarian aid

Vienna (OTS) – Austria is providing 10 million euros to help vital work by local humanitarian organizations, including UNICEF.
As the conflict in the Gaza Strip enters its 22nd week from Monday, food and clean water have become incredibly scarce and essential relief supplies are lacking.
The war has reportedly killed over 27,000 people, most of them women and children. Almost 50% of the civilian population in Gaza are children. They are always the most affected by disasters and are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
UNICEF Austria welcomes the decision of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday that ten million euros from the Foreign Ministry’s foreign disaster fund will be made available to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the World Health Organization and UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Between October 21 and February 15, UNICEF transported 511 trucks to the Gaza Strip. Priority relief items include WASH sanitation and consumables (hygiene kits, hygiene kits, chlorine tablets, etc.), food, winterization materials, shelter (tarpaulins) and health supplies including vaccines.

UNICEF urges parties to refrain from military escalation in Rafah, Gaza, where over 600,000 children and their families have been displaced, many of them more than once. A humanitarian ceasefire will save lives and enable an expansion of humanitarian assistance, helping to provide protection for the children whose lives and futures are at stake.
