Almost 27,000 participants lasted 130,000 butterflies in the Citizen Science project last year “Butterflies in Austria” Registered and the community has awarded more than 1.1 million photolics. Now blooming Austria and “nature in the garden” are calling up for voting – until March 10, 2025, interested parties can select their favorite butterfly from the 10 “mostly happy” tag.

Both the caterpillars are an important source of food for birds and small animals as well as the moths, which are also important to us as flower pollinators. Competition
Among everyone who participates in the election as a butterfly of the year, 25 garden specialist books from the “Kurz und Gut” series of “Nature in the Garden” and five Billa vouchers worth 50 euros will be made (to redeem from Billa and Billa Plus) raffled.
Together strong for biodiversity
With their cooperation, blooming Austria and “nature in the garden” create a Europe -wide nature conservation and scientific lighthouse cooperation between a public and a private institution. Both actors have a clear focus on nature and environmental education with the vision of Austria more diverse, more colorful and more diverse and the Austrians: to inspire biodiversity and nature conservation inside and to integrate them in a participatory manner.
Citizen Science Project: App “Butterflies Austria”
The free Schmetterlingsapp.at With the associated desktop version, the scientific recording of the Austrian daily daily serves. The app includes approximately 160 determinable daily species and 32 moths and enables reporting of butterfly observations with just a few clicks and without complicated technical applications. With an integrated photo function, photos are invited to a gallery within seconds and made accessible to the community and research. The almost 27,000 users: together with their sightings and photos, contribute to building the largest Austrian butterfly gallery.
