Austria is against the ban on combustion engines

The current Pragmaticus survey shows: A whopping 63 percent are against banning the sale of cars with combustion engines from 2035

Schaan/Vienna (OTS) Austrians would prefer to choose the drive system for their cars themselves in the future and feel patronized by the media. This comes from a survey as part of the magazine’s current cover story The Pragmaticus out.

The majority of respondents also reject the pharmacy requirement for over-the-counter medications (59%) and the IG-L-100 on the motorway (56%). More than two thirds feel bullied by the media. However, not even one in four people are bothered by the smoking ban in restaurants.

The population is demanding stricter laws. For 12 out of 13 topics, the majority of those surveyed would like stricter rules. The top public nuisance is dog excrement in public spaces (81%), and almost as many people find the rules for private gun ownership too lax (80%). Keeping dangerous dog breeds and Islamism end up on the pitches. Only when it comes to cannabis consumption is the population more tolerant than the legislature.

“On the one hand, parts of the population have the feeling that the state, society and especially the media are constantly telling them how they should live. On the other hand, you can certainly gain something from clear guidelines from the legislature, and it is not uncommon for people to tend to tighten them up,” says Peter Hajek, summarizing the results.

More on the topic in the current issue: Henryk M. Broder recommends following the Jewish rules, which have been around for thousands of years with 613 commandments and prohibitions. The cultural philosopher philosopher Alexander Grau explains why freedom always leads to inequality and trying to enforce equality creates an authoritarian society. The economist Gilles Saint-Paul describes the risks and disadvantages of the Nudging, a sophisticated form of manipulation. And the former German family minister Kristina Schröder warns against fundamental rights being stripped away as quickly as in the pandemic when it comes to climate protection.
