Austria in the EU comparison in the top field for social security for the self-employed

Vienna (OTS) –

“With the compulsory insurance in the EU comparison in the top field in social security for the self-employed, this impressively confirms the course of the SVS with the 360-degree offer for social security and the principle of professional self-government,” says Peter Lehner, chairman of the social security of the self-employed (SVS) at the “summit talks”, the Thursday afternoon for the first time in the SVS lounge in the Wiedner Hauptstraße in front of 150 guests from politics, business and administration. The topic of the scientific conference was “certainly self-employed” and highlighted the different systems of the EU countries from a legal perspective.

Together with the Institute for Labor and Social Law at the University of Vienna, the SVS carried out an analysis based on the recommendation of the EU Council for access to social protection and implementation in the Member States. In general, the social security of the self-employed in the different EU countries is very complex. Austria and Spain stand out with compulsory insurance. Germany has selective insurance obligations and voluntary insurance opportunities for the self -employed. In the Netherlands, further insurance or a further reference is only possible as part of employee insurance. “Austria has comprehensively implemented the council recommendation with compulsory insurance and the option for voluntary unemployment insurance and compared to the Netherlands and Germany,” says Univ.-Prof. Elisabeth Brameshuber and adds: “The Austrian system is complex, but has a much higher transparency than the systems of the other EU countries. With the development of the SVS, Austria is a model student; the last missing puzzle stone is the integration of the material law provisions for accident insurance into the GSVG.”

SVS director Martina Rosenmayr-Khoshideh explains the motivation for the study: “SVS has a legal mandate for research. The connection between science and practice creates a direct benefit for the insured.” Rosenmayr-Khoshideh adds that in the course of the latest research project “SVS-on”, there were no terminable differences, passed them on to politics and that equations have already been implemented. SVS General Director Alexander Biach explains the organization and the self-image of the SVS: “We are entitled to be leaders in prevention, digitization and care.
