AUGE/UG Carinthia firmly rejects the claims of the industrial association
Carinthia (OTS) –

The AUGE/UG Kärnten (Alternative Independent Union) makes it clear: The Austrian pension system is stable and sustainably secured – also for the next 30 years. The latest alarming statements by IV President Georg Knill that the social system is in danger and Austria is “going to the wall” do not correspond to reality.

Knill criticizes the annual subsidies of around 30 billion euros from the budget for pensions. The industrial association overlooks the fact that these contributions do not represent a weakness, but rather a strength of the Austrian welfare state. AUGE/UG Carinthia emphasizes that 480 months of insurance – 40 years of work – form a solid basis for the pension system and are sufficient for all employees, employees and civil servants.

No upper limit for working life

AUGE/UG Carinthia demands that everyone should be able to decide for themselves how long they work – without rigid upper limits. Once they have reached 480 months of insurance, every person should be free to continue working or to enjoy their well-deserved pension. This flexibility not only strengthens individual freedom, but also economic stability.

No EU interference in Austria’s pension policy

AUGE/UG Carinthia also speaks out clearly against advice or guidelines from the European Union with regard to the pension system. Austrian pension provision has proven itself and is supported in the long term by the contributions of the working population. The pension system is not the problem – rather, the responsibility lies with companies to treat their employees fairly.

Appeal to the Industrial Association

“Instead of constantly questioning the social system, the industrial association should think about how it can improve the working conditions for its employees. The following applies: If working people are doing well, the economy is doing well,” says AUGE/UG Carinthia.

The independent trade unionists are therefore calling for a return to objective discussion and an end to the scaremongering by the industrial association. It is time to focus on social justice and secure prosperity in Austria – for everyone.
