Attersee Shipping – First floating artist salon in the world

Prelude to a Gustav Mahler Festival of 3 premieres in Steinbach am Attersee in cooperation with the Salzkammergut Cultural Capital Bad Ischl

Steinbach am Attersee (OTS) At the start of the unique Gustav Mahler Festival, the management of Stern Schifffahrt GmbH invited Mag. Doris Cuturi-Stern to an extraordinary event on the Klimt-Mahler ship on Wednesday, May 29th. The salons renovated in Gustav Klimt style became like this in collaboration with Dr. Elisabeth Schweeger opened what is probably the world’s first floating artist salon.

Artist salons were informal meeting places for artists, intellectuals and cultural workers in the 19th and early 20th centuries. These salons were organized by influential hosts or hostesses who welcomed artists, writers, musicians and other creative people into their homes.
The “Berghof” of the composer Ignaz Brühl, a stately property located above Lake Attersee, was a meeting place for annual private “summer festivals” and there were even premieres of some of Gustav Mahler’s works there.

Doris Cuturi-Stern, which started in 2007, “Dedicating the exterior design of their ships to world-famous artists such as Gustav Mahler, Gustav Klimt and Christian Ludwig Attersee is now setting a new milestone in the history of Stern & Hafferl, today’s Stern Holding GmbH, with the premiere of the floating artist salon“, CEO of Stern Holding GmbH, DI Karl Neumann, is also pleased.
Even the ancestors Josef Stern and Franz Hafferl liked to include artists in their projects. The route of the famous Ischlerbahn was first laid out by artists based on the most beautiful viewpoints before the surveyors were allowed to work.

This work will be performed by the Philharmonie Salzburg with conductor Elisabeth Fuchs at the place where it was created, on June 1st, 2024, symbolically resurrecting Gustav Mahler, even if he is no longer alive.
