Atmospheric fundraising dinner in the Leopold Museum

Under the motto New Spirits. Modern zeitgeist Ladened the directors Hans-Peter Wipplinger and Moritz Stipsicz to an atmospheric evening, which was all about the reform efforts and occult currents around 1900. The sisters Wiesenthal, which created a completely new dance style in Austria with the expression dance, free of rules and conventions, welcomed the guests to the museum’s atrium.

Hidden modernity
The exhibition Hidden modernity. Fascination of the occult around 1900 Kit the art enthusiasts into the world of another, hidden modernity, in the Vienna of the Nietzsche supporters and Wagner disciples, a time when people deepened into the theosophy, called ghosts, stuck tables and stopped. Around 1900, the need for a new spirituality and a life in harmony with nature strengthened in Europe. A new spirit also blew through Vienna, artists found new expressions in modern dance forms. The works of art reflect a mystical, often dented attitude to life. The show traces the criticism of Christian religious practices, which was accompanied by enthusiasm for Far Eastern redemption scenarios. Body cult, alpinism, vegetarianism, clothing reform, expression dance and theosophy were symptoms of an ethical revolution requested by Nietzsche. The enthusiasm for the work of Wagner entered into all areas of cultural life, his ideal of the total work of art was directional for the Viennese seconds. In contrast to Paris or Prague, Vienna was not one of the centers of occultism. Nevertheless, the theosophy of the writer Helena Blavatsky came to the vegetarian circles in Vienna. A protagonist was the universal scholar Friedrich Eckstein, whose network included the composer Gustav Mahler, the founder of anthroposophy Rudolf Steiner and the social democratic politician Victor Adler. The fluid shapes of Edvard Munch, the belief in the existence of the vitality of OD rays and the discovery of the X-rays provided artistic impulses, up to the inner shows by Richard Gerstl, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka or Max Oppenheimer, who represented their image protagonists as auratic phenomena.

Fundraising dinner and raffle
The successful event, the total proceeds of which are used to fulfill musological tasks, and to benefit from the preservation of collection objects and art mediation projects, surprised the participants with the amazing performance of the mentalist Harry Lucas, an exclusive dinner, which is in the sign of the harvest time and with an exquisite tombola. All of this was made possible by the support of numerous sponsors. Joseph Perrier made the champagne available, red and white wine served the Wieninger winery and Gobelsburg Castle, Ottakringer provided joy among beer connoisseurs, the Petit Fours contributed the Ströck bakery and Vöslauer refreshed with mineral water. The raffle attracted dead, diamond -occupied ear slopes of the jewelry workshop Skrein, a work of art by Hermann Nitsch, with a luxurious Akris handle, provided by the Nitsch Foundation and much more
