AT WÖRTHERSEE: (NOT) A PR STUNT (PHOTO)

Velden am Wörthersee (ots) The who’s who of the Austrian acting guard, a plot with all the ingredients that make up an international successful series, a spectacular trailer in cinema quality – “The makers of AM WÖRTHERSEE do almost everything differently than we usually know it”, amazed Manuel Rubeythe one next to Julian Waldner, Sarah Jung, Michael Pink and Reinhard Nowak can be seen in a leading role. “This chutzpah may even open up unimagined possibilities…” Actress and model also play supporting roles Alena Gerber as well as the influencer Anna Strigl (>2 million followers). The trailer premiered on April 1, 2024 and caused a stir in the media, on social media and in the film industry. The trailer was streamed by an audience of millions in the first 14 days, AM WÖRTHERSEE is being celebrated on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok and at the same time people are puzzling over what the project is all about. “AM WÖRTHERSEE is a PR stunt by the Wörthersee-Rosental Tourismus GmbH region,” managing director Roland Sint lets the cat out of the bag at the Tourism Forum on April 15, 2024 in Velden. “We have everything that makes a successful series – but the series doesn’t exist. Not yet.”

The series that doesn’t exist (yet).

The idea of producing a trailer in Netflix quality for a series that doesn’t even exist came about because Roland Sint wanted to break new ground in marketing for the Wörthersee-Rosental region. The tourism expert demanded an idea that was literally out of the box. “I didn’t feel like seeing advertising subjects, TV spots and social media films with the same, interchangeable fair-weather images again,” explains Roland Sint. The Innsbruck film producers Stefan Ager and Andreas Gumpenberger (LENSECAPE) then came up with the idea of a series for an international streamer – also in light of the fact that Lake Wörthersee has already written series history with “A Castle on Lake Wörthersee”. The fact that a tourism region cannot simply produce a Netflix series ultimately led to the unprecedented idea of producing a trailer for a series that doesn’t even exist. “With everything that goes with it: a top cast, a crew with the best in the industry, film poster, social media campaign, press work, reviews from film critics,” explains Stefan Ager. “The full program.” However, Roland Sint didn’t want to be satisfied with the idea of this spectacular PR stunt: “I said from the start: I don’t just want a trailer – I want the series.”

The fact that Region Wörthersee-Rosental Tourismus GmbH’s PR stunt becomes a series is actually a realistic scenario: “When the scenes for the trailer were filmed in absolute secrecy on Lake Wörthersee in September 2023, a very special dynamic emerged, there was something there in the air,” says director Patrick R. Neubäck. “Julian Waldner and Manuel Rubey came to me and said: What’s happening here is so big – it could really become a series.” The Innsbruck production companies LENSECAPE and EUTOPIAFILM not only produced the trailer and developed a marketing strategy around the trailer together with the Munich agency HANSMANN PR, but also wrote a film bible for a mini-series with six episodes of 45 minutes each. For this, Patrick R. Neubäck has gotten promising support from Kim Strobl, who has already written several scripts for international streamers. Co-producer Bernhard Holzhammer (EUTOPIAFILM) has been in discussions with various streamers since the beginning of the year and everyone involved is working hard to make the series AM WÖRTHERSEE a reality. The enormous community that has been following the project since the trailer premiere also contributes to this. “People want to see AM WÖRTHERSEE,” says Roland Sint.
