Association for Non-Profit Foundations: Community foundations as a long-term concept of regional non-profit organization

Pilot program for regional non-profit initiatives from the beginning of 2024

Vienna (OTS) Franz Karl Prüller, Vice President of the Association for Non-Profit Foundations and a long-time contributor to Austrian and European civil society, explains the model: “Community foundations are a sustainable and flexible concept for getting involved with and for each other in your own city or region. They encourage people to implement and promote their ideas together. Adapted to potential and needs, they work in various subject areas for the common good of the people in their catchment area.

Community foundations are participatory foundations: shared responsibility, shared leadership and shared fundraising enable a larger number of people to combine low-threshold participation with the long-term form of the foundation. Depending on the possibility, you can contribute with financial resources as well as with voluntary commitment and/or know-how.
Non-profit initiatives are emerging in cities as well as in rural regions of Austria. Unfortunately, many of them will silt up again if a stable structure is not created in time. Community foundations combine the possibility of low-threshold participation for a large number of people with the long-term organizational form of the foundation.

The Association for Non-Profit Foundations offers a pilot program for people who can imagine setting up and setting up a regional pilot initiative and a later community foundation, who want to try out the feasibility in their own catchment area with expert support and at the same time get to know successful practical examples from all over Europe.
