The augmented reality start-up Artivive from Vienna and the microelectronic manufacturer AT&S from Leoben have completed a cooperation to make the Austria Pavilion at the 2025 World Exhibition in Osaka an interactive experience for visitors: After installing the Artivive app, a work of art from the Schloss Eggenberg collection is digitally awakened and through background information, Special effects and narrative voices expanded with additional dimensions. The painted paravent, or in German “set”, originally 4.8 meters wide and 1.8 meters high, is a masterpiece from the early 17th century and shows the original Osaka castle complex and parts of the historic city. The app recognizes the excerpt from the painting via the camera: in the screen and then overlap the recording on the smartphone screen with the appropriate animations and additional information.

In addition to the elaborate animations of the scenes depicted, the augmented reality presentation of the Osaka-Paravent also includes research results from students: inside of the Tokyo University of the Arts and the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. Under the direction of Prof. Michael W. Schneider and Prof. Dr. Ruth Mateus-Terr was examined the visual culture of the work in order to open up new perspectives and to promote intercultural dialogue. When users: Inside on the paravent, the app automatically recognizes the artwork and loads the digital content in real time, which creates new dimensions and interactive stories.
