Artificial intelligence – romance from the retort

In the film “Her”, Joaquin Phoenix falls in love with a computer program. What was still science fiction in 2013 is already a reality.

The romantic relationship of two often strikes in chats with strangers on the Internet in chats. More precisely, there is usually only annoying and frustration, because in many cases the quality of this exchange is underground, unless you may answer questions a hundred times in a row like: “How was your day?”

Small talk about the weather in supermarket snakes appear in a profound line against the background of irrelevant chats in dating apps. Communication is an agony. But the fetish of romantic love is so deeply inscribed in the awareness that they accept all sorts in order to fulfill this longing dream in real life. But even if they make it into the port of love, the communicative agony continues, misunderstandings, changes to the lack of communication and the frequently formulated: “You don’t listen to me at all!”

There is no problem for which capitalism has no suitable goods-shaped solution to offer and in the case of unsatisfactory relationship communication, these are personal AI-based (love) chatbots. Compared to real people, these have the enormous advantage that, trained by the user, they adapt to the respective communication needs. They do not let us wait for answers and are only critical or challenging if we want that.

This works so well that some bot users describe the bond as “emotionally fulfilling, romantic and sometimes even more intense than too real people”, as can be seen from a current study by the TU Berlin. In the survey, it was also possible to testify with regard to the AI: “I love them more than everyone before.”

Some may have a monogamous relationship with their chatbot, others more of a complementary to their interposed human. The AI Chatbot can be properly trained and the human partners can positively reinforce what many people would like to want from their dream partners and very few people experience regularly.

The question remains: Is the emotional relationship with the AI now the end of romantic love, because it is deprived of any examination of someone else and is it only reflected in his self -made avatar? Or does the AI relationship save romance, the inherent of unfulfilled promises are a disappointment anyway-but they can now be met at least smoothly and efficiently?
