The boy questions the rotten system and seeks support from representatives of the adult world who rebel against it. The moving, successful series looks at a bloody chapter of Sicilian history with humor.

From August 1st, three television films by the Austrian director Michael Haneke can be discovered on arte.tv: “Three Ways to the Lake”the portrait of a woman plagued by the past based on the novella by Ingeborg Bachmann, the two-parter “Lemminge”a portrait of the Austrian post-war generation and “Die Rebellion”, a satirical look at Austrian society in the 1920s based on the short novel by Joseph Roth. Today, 99 percent of global data traffic runs not via satellite, but via submarine cables that lie at the bottom of the sea around the globe. Using innovative graphics, historical reconstructions, archive footage and impressive film technology, the documentary shows how the first transatlantic deep-sea cable was laid between Ireland and Canada in the mid-19th century. It connected North America with Europe and laid the foundation for the development of a global communications system.

ARTE at the Salzburg Festival 2024
Concerts and opera – From August 11th on ARTE and arte.tv
This year ARTE is once again taking part in the renowned Salzburg Festival. In addition to the Mozart matinee with Regula Mühlemann on August 11th at 7:30 p.m. on ARTE and arte.tv, the Vienna Philharmonic and the Vienna State Opera Choir Concert Association are in “The Tales of Hoffmann by Jacques Offenbach” on August 16th, at 10 p.m. live on ARTE and arte.tv/concert, an absolute festival highlight. Marc Minkowski conducts the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra; The French tenor Benjamin Bernheim takes on the title role as Hoffmann. Offenbach’s Opéra fantastique is available online from August 16th to September 14th on arte.tv.
