Brain teasers for a good cause – Armin Assinger welcomes five athletes to the “Celebrity Athlete Million Show” on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 2 and ORF ON. This year, ski jumper Eva Pinkelnig, soccer coach Ralph Hasenhüttl, biathlete Anna Gandler and the sailing duo and Olympic winning team Lara Vadlau and Lukas Mähr are competing for 75,000 euros each for the benefit of Austrian Sports Aid. The winnings are provided by ELK Fertighaus, SanLucar and the Austrian Lotteries.
These athletes play for a good cause:
Eva Pinkelnig: “I’m really happy, it’s super cool to be able to be here. I haven’t prepared specifically, I hope that my general knowledge is enough, that the jokers will help me and that we’ll earn a lot of money for sports aid.” About her weaknesses in quizzes: “Literature and politics are the topics I’m afraid of, but it always comes back to that questions. The pressure is definitely a bit greater because I play for other people, so of course I hope that I can go as far as possible. In any case, I want to reach 500 euros, anything above is of course a bonus.” About her willingness to take risks: “Safety comes first – if it were for myself, I would gamble, but in that case it’s for a good cause Every euro counts.”
Ralph Hasenhüttl on preparation and nervousness: “I trained a bit with the app, otherwise I didn’t actually prepare at all. I don’t think about embarrassing myself at all because you have basic knowledge. I think I’m pretty knowledgeable in all areas. Of course, there are always questions where you can look stupid – then hopefully I have good jokers around me who can help. As a trainer you are used to answering unpleasant questions, it is part of our job, so it is not an unpleasant situation here. At the moment I’m still very nervous, but I can’t say what it’s like to be in the hot seat. I hope to make as much money as possible, because supporting sports in Austria is very important to me.” About his willingness to take risks: “The maximum amount is clearly the goal, so I’m also in favor of more risk. But of course it’s a matter of consideration, if you don’t have a plan at all, it’s better to call it a day.”
Anna Gandler on anticipation and preparation: “It’s a great honor to be part of this and a really cool experience – especially with such good athletes around me. I prepared myself with the app and brushed up on some general knowledge. Shortly before the show I’m still relaxed, but when it starts, the nervousness will kick in, but I can deal with pressure.” And further: “Topics of anxiety are geography and history, I’m good at biology, that’s a subject, that interests me very much. As an athlete, of course you always want to be at the top, but if I make it to 10,000 euros, I’ll be quite happy.” About her willingness to take risks: “It worked well with gambling when I was practicing, but I don’t want to risk it. Hopefully we will all stick together and support each other – as a team we will be stronger and know more. I’ll do my best and then we’ll see what happens.”
Lara Vadlau and Lukas Mähr: “Contrary to our sporting lives, we didn’t prepare for the ‘million-dollar show’ at all and tackle the whole thing spontaneously and with fun. Then hopefully there will be a lot of money for the young athletes.” About their strategy: “We work best as a team, and each of us is happy when the other knows exactly which answer is the right one. The ‘million-dollar show’ gets your heart pumping, you know everyone is watching on TV at home. The expectations are even greater than at the Olympic Games – that’s why we have to perform. It will definitely be exciting.” About her strengths and weaknesses: “Anything you say in advance can only be embarrassing if you don’t know it then. We accept what comes, we can’t influence it anyway and look forward to all questions.” Lara Vadlau on the willingness to take risks: “It’s great that we’re starting as a team, because of course I would gamble everything away and Lukas thinks so Even more so to the others – we will find a good middle ground and, with the right risk strategy, move higher little by little.” Lukas Mähr: “Of course we want to achieve the main goal. 75,000 euros is basically the gold medal and that’s what we’re aiming for.”
