Architecture of memory: The memorial on the Schlösslberg

Mogersdorf (OTS) –

Mogersdorf in southern Burgenland, located on the border with Hungary, is a historically significant place. The Battle of Mogersdorf took place here on August 1, 1664, in which the Christian army defeated the Ottoman troops. To mark the 300th anniversary of this battle, the memorial on the Schlösslberg was built in 1964, which today represents an important memorial for peace and tolerance. This message as well as the architectural value of the memorial – such as the chapel on the Schlösslberg, built in a modern style as a simple, whitewashed cube – also attracted the attention of the construction industry and architecture platform Daibau, which offers its users interesting historical and modern ones Architecture in Austria would like to bring closer.

The memorial, designed by the renowned Viennese architect Ottokar Uhl, consists of the Schlössl Chapel and a 15 meter high concrete cross. Both elements were consecrated on August 2, 1964 and are intended to embody the willingness to tolerate and the value of human dignity. The chapel originally housed an altar triptych by Herbert Böckl, which was later replaced by an altarpiece by Rudolf Kedl due to problems with the interior temperature. The impressive entrance gate shows twelve biblical scenes carved in copper.

Another important part of the complex is the Schlösslberg Peace Trail. This themed trail, which is part of the Raab-Örség-Goricko Nature Park, invites visitors to think about avoiding conflict. Along the way there are important stations such as the Peace Stone and the White Cross, which symbolize reconciliation with former opponents.

The memorial is complemented by other historical places such as the Anna Chapel and the parish church of St. Joseph added. The former is an interesting baroque building, reminiscent of a Turkish tent with its cylindrical walls and conical roof, while the latter shines in new splendor after renovation in 2014. Monuments have not only symbolic but also architectural value and require appropriate maintenance. Bit of our journey through the Memorial site on the Schlösslberg We would like to recognize the skilled construction and restoration companies who shape our built environment and its aesthetics. As a construction industry and architecture platform, we have a list of these for those interested Company in Mogersdorf put together, which represents a gateway to the world of Mogersdorf’s construction and renovation talents.
