ARBÖ: Ascension Day – brings a long weekend with a marathon in Salzburg and “Baby Expo” in Vienna

Vienna (OTS) Due to the holiday on May 9th, one day of vacation on Friday is enough for four days off. A circumstance that people, not only in Austria, but also in Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein, will be happy to take advantage of for excursions and/or short vacations when the weather forecast is good. The ARBÖ traffic experts expect the first wave of travel to begin on Wednesday afternoon, which will primarily affect city exits. In Vienna there will be traffic jams on the Südosttangente (A23) heading south as well as on Altmannsdorfer Straße or Triester Straße and the west exit until the evening. The traffic jam routes in Graz are Kärntner Straße, Merangasse, Plüddemanngasse and the streets around the Webling distribution circle. In Linz, from the afternoon onwards, it will take considerably longer to get out of town on the Mühlkreisautobahn (A7) and the Ebelsberg bypass, as well as on Wiener Straße. If you plan to spend more time on Unionstrasse and Salzburger Strasse as well as the B139 towards Donaulände until later in the evening, you will be well advised. A similar picture to that in Linz will be seen in Salzburg on the Vogelweiderstraße, the Munich federal highway (B155) and the Westautobahn (A1). Increased traffic may result in longer waiting times on the following transit routes:

  • Westautobahn (A1), in the greater Salzburg area
  • Pyhrnautobahn (A9), in front of the construction site areas near Inzersdorf/Krems and between Bösebach and the Deutschfeistritz junction as well as in front of the Gleinalm tunnel
  • Tauernautobahn (A10), in the construction site area between Golling andwerfen
  • Karawanken Autobahn (A11), in front of the Karawanken Tunnel
  • Inntalautobahn (A12), in the greater Innsbruck area and before the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border
  • Brenner motorway (A13), towards Italy, in front of the Schönberg toll booth and between Matrei and the Brenner Pass
  • Fernpassstraße (B179), especially in front of the portals of the Vils/Füssen border tunnel and the Lermooser tunnel

Zwtl.: “Baby Expo” attracts families to the Wiener Stadthalle

From Friday to Sunday, 10th – 12th May, the Wiener Stadthalle will become a mecca for expectant parents and parents of babies and toddlers. The “Baby Expo” opens its doors in Hall D every day from 10 a.m. Over 200 exhibitors will present their products and services for the little ones until 6 p.m. Many visitors to the “Baby Expo” will arrive in their own vehicle. Therefore, according to the ARBÖ traffic experts, longer waiting times on the Neubaugurtel, Hütteldorfer Straße and the streets in the Nibelungenviertel will inevitably occur. Drivers should also pay attention to the general short-term parking zone and the local parking regulations. If you want to avoid the traffic jams, the ARBÖ traffic experts recommend traveling with the Wiener Linien. The Stadthalle is easily accessible by subway line U6, tram lines 6, 9, 18, 48 and bus line 48.

Zwtl.: Marathon leads through Salzburg at 42,195 meters on Sunday and therefore leads to road closures

Next Sunday, May 12th, the Salzburg Marathon will take place for the 21st time. Thousands of athletes will take part in the various running competitions. On Friday and Saturday, numerous program items will take place in the Volksgarten in addition to the allocation of starting numbers and registration. The impact on traffic is expected to be minimal on these days. The situation looks completely different on Sunday. “Around 60 road connections are affected by temporary and partial closures. These include Hellbrunner Straße, Augustiner Straße, Nikolaus-Lenau-Straße, Griesgasse and Bürgerspitalgasse. The first closure will be imposed on Hofstallgasse at midnight. This is also the last closure, which will be lifted at 8 p.m.,” say the ARBÖ traffic experts. The ARBÖ traffic experts are happy to provide information about current closures, traffic jams and alternative routes around the marathon on the Austria-wide telephone number 050/123-123.
