APG welcomes the draft assessment of the new renewable expansion of acceleration law (EABG)

The Austrian Power Grid (APG) welcomes the assessment of the new renewable expansion of the acceleration law (EABG). “With this draft law, the Austrian federal government creates a first basis for the urgently necessary acceleration of the approval procedures. This draft law is a prerequisite for us to implement our projects shown in the network development plan. Network expansion as quickly as possible.

First assessment

The implementation of Red III in the EABG is a big step in the right direction. The urgently needed assignment of the outstanding public interest in network infrastructure measures for the integration of renewables brings considerable acceleration potential compared to the current environmental impact assessment law (UVP-G) regime. Despite these positive aspects, there is a need for adaptation in some procedural norms. APG will actively contribute its expertise and experience from numerous positive UVP-G procedures as part of the assessment procedure. “We will now analyze the draft assessment in detail, especially with regard to the factual effects of acceleration from our comprehensive project experience. From the point of view of the APG, it is essential that the EAGG will be decided quickly in the National Council after completion of the assessment so that the necessary measures can be effective as soon as possible.
