Anthony Schmid scores ORF Vorarlberg’s “Goal of the Year 2023”.

With the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten”, ORF Vorarlberg presented Vorarlberg’s most spectacular football goal at “Night of Football”

Vienna (OTS) The ORF Vorarlberg voted together with the “Vorarlberger Nachrichten” (VN) and a prominent panel of experts – the football fans also had a say in the online voting on vorarlberg.ORF.at: Austria Lustenau striker Anthony Schmid was voted the best goal 2023 taken care of. Although the Lustenauers were rarely able to celebrate goals in the Bundesliga autumn season, the one from the French native was a real highlight. The award took place at the “Night of Football” organized jointly with Russmedia on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Casino Bregenz with numerous prominent guests.

Eileen Campbell and Zdravka Parapunova also top

Anthony Schmid’s side kick came out on top in a particularly close election. Even if Lustenauer Austria wasn’t able to win a point against WSG Tirol despite the great goal, his goal was a real highlight for the bottom of the table in the low-goal autumn of 2023. In the expert voting, Anthony Schmid was only just ahead of Eileen Campbell, who scored her first competitive goal for the national team in the Nations League away match in Norway. The fan voting on vorarlberg.ORF.at went to Zdravka Parapunova from the FC Lustenau / FC Dornbirn syndicate.

Prominent experts

In the run-up to the “Night of Football”, ORF Vorarlberg put together a selection of ten goals from which to choose. For the first time there were also three goals from women’s football. Football fans were able to vote for their favorite goal online. A jury of experts also voted. Austria’s footballer of the century Herbert Prohaska and AS Monaco coach Adi Hütter voted. The ORF experts Roman Mählich and Helge Payer as well as the former national team players Viktoria Schnaderbeck and Sonja Geiger-Player were also represented on the expert jury. The sports editors of ORF Vorarlberg and Vorarlberger Nachrichten also voted. For the final result, the rankings from the expert and fan voting were added together.
