Another driving school is bankrupt: AK President Stangl is calling for a protective shield for those affected

A protective shield is needed for those affected. Driving schools must finally be legally required to take out insolvency insurance. It cannot be the case that several hundred young people pay the price for every bankruptcy.

AK President Andreas Stangl

Linz (OTS) The official closure of the Friends driving school last year is now leading to the next insolvency proceedings in the industry. As has happened several times in previous years, the affected learner drivers are literally “hit hard” financially. You must hope to have at least part of the payments already made replaced in the insolvency proceedings of the former driving school operator.

In the past two years there have been several hundred victims following driving school closures. Not all of them received back the payments they had already made. Many driving students who had already paid for their driving license training but then had to continue it at other driving schools due to bankruptcy were stuck with the additional costs. In most cases, several hundred to over a thousand euros are still outstanding.

There is a simple reason why numerous families now have to worry about the money they have paid down: the statutory insolvency protection for advance payments made by driving students, which the AK Upper Austria has vehemently demanded, has still not been implemented. AK President Andreas Stangl is therefore calling on the driving school industry to give up its resistance to mandatory insolvency protection. The National Council is called upon to decide on these safeguards. The AK Upper Austria is getting a boost from Upper Austrian state politics: Last year, the state parliament passed a resolution calling on the federal government to secure the advance payments made by law. The Ministry of Climate Protection and the Ministry of Social Affairs are responsible.

The insolvency proceedings will show how many driving students now have to pay extra for training that was not provided and have to switch to other driving schools. So far, more than a hundred affected people have contacted AK Consumer Protection about repayment claims. AK President Andreas Stangl demands: “A protective shield is needed for those affected. Driving schools must finally be legally required to take out insolvency insurance. It cannot be the case that several hundred young people pay the price for every bankruptcy.

The AK Consumer Protection advises all prospective driver learners to make sure that only partial payment agreements are made until mandatory insolvency insurance is in place in order to keep the damage as small as possible in the event of insolvency. From the current one insolvency Affected driving students can assert outstanding claims in the insolvency proceedings, for which they have to pay 25 euros.
