It is now the turn of the LVwG Innsbruck and the public prosecutor’s office to assess the police’s actions in civil disobedience over slatted pig floors
Vienna (OTS) – Occupied on June 5, 2024 16 animal rights activists the media room of the ÖVP headquarters in Innsbruck to speak as a “delegation of pigs” with the Minister of Agriculture, who sits on the board of the Tyrolean ÖVP, about the end of the fully slatted floor. Totschnig was not prepared to do this, and so the police evicted the occupation. With completely unnecessary ones attacks, as it became known afterwards. The animal rights activists have now filed two complaints against the police and a complaint to the public prosecutor’s office.

The criminal complaint is directed against 3 police officers who broke into a cell in which four animal rights activists were sleeping during the night, held the women by force and compared their faces with photos. One of the complaints against the measures brought the arrest of an animal rights activist by the police so that they could photograph his face and the stripping completely naked with an inspection of the anus before the State Administrative Court. The other deals with the fact that civilian officers secretly followed an animal rights activist who had demonstrated against the suffering of pigs on a public street to her car in order to search it under the pretext that it contained stolen goods. The woman was also searched.
VGT chairman DDr. Martin Balluch insists on constitutional action by the executive: “Civil disobedience is democratically legitimate if it is subject to certain rules, which in this case were adhered to by the animal rights activists.
The police have the task of remaining neutral and protecting everyone involved from violence. She can evict an occupation, but must strictly follow the legal requirements. This means that no identification measures, such as forced photography, are permitted in the case of administrative violations. Likewise, stripping naked and searching a body under duress and searching a car may only happen if there is a concrete suspicion of a legally punishable act, which was clearly not the case here.
We hope that the state administrative court and the public prosecutor’s office will investigate and judge the police accordingly in order to prevent such attacks in the future.”
