Sekt Austria has a new ambassador and is entering the humor genre. Andreas Vitasek conquers the hearts of audiences as a cabaret artist and actor as well as as a director and artistic director and is also valued for his educated palate. Now he is committed to sparkling enjoyment with red-white-red origins and replaces Annemarie Foidl, President of the Sommelier Union Austria, in this position.
He is one of the country’s biggest public favorites. In addition to the numerous awards for his artistic work, he can also look forward to the title “Foodie of the Year” and his portrait adorns the cover of many a gourmet magazine. Andreas Vitasek is a passionate connoisseur and wine lover and also includes sparkling wine. For this reason, he was appointed Sparkling Wine Austria Ambassador 2024 at a ceremony on October 9th by the Austrian Sekt Committee. Herbert Hacker, Falstaff editor-in-chief a. D. and culinary companion of the new sparkling dignitary, had the role of laudator. With a wink, he shared, among other things, anecdotes from his early culinary experiences. For example, the young Andreas Vitasek had a vegetarian and macrobiotic diet for a long time. An attitude that quickly came to an end when he moved to Paris to study at Jacques Lecoq’s acting school. The performance of the play “The Can Opener” by Victor Lanoux, which he performed with the support of his friend and restaurateur Camillo Schmidt, is also legendary. Accordingly, to compensate for the nutritionally frugal content of the piece, the venues were selected solely based on the criterion of the nearby gourmet restaurant.
“For many years we have been appointing Sekt Austria ambassadors to put public figures at the service of promoting awareness of the quality and origin of Austrian sparkling wine. I am particularly pleased to have won Andreas Vitasek, a very well-known and popular cabaret artist and actor and also a real connoisseur, for this award this year. He proves his love for good food and drink both with the title of his current program “Spätlese” and with regular gourmet trips. According to his own statements, he has grown particularly fond of sparkling wine over the years.”
