The Genuss Guide 2025 is a compendium of the best grocery stores, delicatessen shops, bakeries, butcher shops, taste workshops, farm-gate shops and supermarkets in Austria. The editorial duo Andrea Knura and Willy Lehmann present over 1,000 shops that made it into the Genuss Guide 2025, which has just been published by medianet Verlag. This year the guide not only takes you to the finest addresses in the country, but also inspires you to make conscious decisions. Decisions that combine enjoyment, quality and responsibility. More and more people are turning to products that are made with care and love, apart from the masses. The variety of sustainably produced, artisanal foods is constantly growing. A trend that gives hope. It is equally gratifying that many shops are tirelessly looking for new, exciting offers that deserve the appreciation of their customers. One focus is therefore on the topic of animal welfare. It shows how responsible agriculture and careful processing can be carried out along the entire value chain – from species-appropriate husbandry to gentle processing to the complete utilization of all parts of an animal. This approach shows respect and produces an impressive variety of high-quality food.
Special prizes and Genuss Guide Award with the best shops from all nine federal states
Three special prizes are awarded each year for particularly outstanding contributions to enjoyment. In the Genuss Guide 2025, these special awards go to Franz Aibler / Eishken Estate – premium fish trade and factory in Vienna for his life’s work.
The special sustainability award goes to Johannes Gutmann / Sonnentor in Sprögnitz, Lower Austria.
The special prize for start ups goes to Hermann.bio / Fungi Pad in Ulrichsberg, Upper Austria.
The Genuss Guide Award is awarded in four categories – the delicatessen & grocery category / the specialist category / the farm and market category / the world enjoyment category – for each federal state. The best business for this year’s focus on animal welfare will also be honored.
