An audience of millions for the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert: Up to 1.181 million saw the live broadcast on ORF 2

ORF film during the concert break “Anton Bruckner – A Journey of Discovery” reached 1.026 million with a 58 percent market share

Vienna (OTS) The world-famous New Year’s Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic on January 1, 2024 once again reached an audience of millions with the traditional ORF live broadcast from the Golden Hall of the Vienna Music Association. In Austria alone, up to 1.181 million viewers watched the cultural event, conducted for the second time by star German conductor Christian Thielemann, on ORF 2. On average, 1.114 million people enjoyed the (higher reach) second part of the concert, with a market share of 57 percent. The first part of the world’s most-watched classical event, which was shown in more than 90 countries around the world this year, had already reached up to 1.040 million people with a market share of 60 percent.

The ORF film during the concert break entitled “Anton Bruckner – A Journey of Discovery” designed by Felix Breisach was also extremely successful. The film homage to the Upper Austrian composer, whose birthday is 200 years old and who was also celebrated – for the first time – with a piece in the New Year’s concert program under the direction of Bruckner expert Christian Thielemann, was watched by up to 1.026 million people, on average The approximately 25-minute program achieved a reach of 1.002 million and a market share of 58 percent.

More concert Dacapos on January 6th on ORF 2 and 3sat

Anyone who missed the live broadcast of the New Year’s concert on ORF 2 or the service Dacapo on yesterday’s main evening on ORF III has two more TV opportunities to experience the event on ORF:
ORF 2 will show the brilliant cultural event again in the “matinee” on Epiphany, on Saturday, January 6th (10:05 a.m.) – introduced by the “pause film” (9:05 a.m.) and the making-of, this time under the title “Behind the scenes of the New Year’s Concert” (9.30 a.m.). 3sat will also broadcast the classical music event on January 6th (8:15 p.m.), and the concert film at intermission on Sunday, January 7th at 10:05 a.m.

The New Year’s concert is available as video-on-demand on ORF ON, in the ORF-TVthek (web and app) and on ORF Topos throughout Austria for 30 days after the TV broadcast, and the ORF film during the concert break will also be made available online later.
