The exertion of personnel recording continues with the federal police this summer. Since the beginning of July 2025, there have been dug -up and inspectors in various federal states as well as newly recorded aspirants. In addition, several hundred new service leaders ended their six-month additional training and from now on support essential middle buildings in the command and decision structure, both in the uniformed wax body as well as in the criminal service and in state protection.
The goal is clear: every vacant body (mainly due to resting stands) is filled as quickly as possible because the all -time high in the police staff can be kept (over 32,000). Since the staff stand is covered in almost all federal states (sometimes even overfilled), this target can also be implemented realistically. In Vienna and Vorarlberg, additional cycling will continue to be initiated in order to be able to compensate for the high departures through retirement stands in the medium term.
Intensive week for exhausts
The topics of the security executive are the police officers who intervene every day for internal security and are at the side of the population. They are the leading foundation of a peaceful and safe society and the reason why Austria can call itself the world’s safest country (except threesome island states, see “Global Peace Index”). For the Ministry of the Interior, it is therefore clear – despite the necessary savings requirements – that the ranks of the police officers continuously strengthen and the police schools, where there is a need, have to be filled well now and in the future.
The past seven days prove that this continues to work: at the end of June 2025, around 350 aspirants began with basic training for the service in the Vienna State Police Directorate. In addition, 152 finished inspectors as well as around 320 newly appointed service officers and civil servants were served for the police Vienna, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and Burgenland an.
In Salzburg 43 police officers successfully completed their training to work on service.
Also in Vorarlberg There have been additional support since the end of June, 27 officials ended their additional training in the Security Academy.
On July 3 Carinthia 80 police officers who have successfully completed the basic police training. There were also 42 new service.
On July 4, finally celebrated in Tyrol Four basic police training courses with 79 police officers and two training courses for police officers with 55 police officers and police officers. Another 55 aspirants were also praised and begin their training in the Security Academy.
Outlook: Already on July 8th there will be the next retirement in the Styriawhere about 75 course participants complete their service course.

- More than 400 aspirants who start with the police school and support the regular forces as part of a long practical phase in a few months (most of them for the Vienna location);
- Around 310 neo -police officers who have completed their training and are now reinforcing the patrol service of the security executive as uniformed executive workers (most of them for the location of Vienna);
- More than 560 freshly trained official civil servants for the command structures of the police inspections and commands, but also for investigating departments.
Full class – full application arches
The profession of the policewoman and the police officer is still attractive: there are currently more than 4,000 police students in the two -year basic training, which starts in regular quarterly: 2,588 women and men began training in 2024 – an increase of around 50 percent compared to the previous year (1,737). There is also interest in 2025: Around 1,500 police students already have or will start basic training this year. 880 recordings took place in March and June, and in September another 330 recordings were planned, including 16 people from the judiciary who change the department.
Due to the intensive recruiting measures, online and offline, the interior department counts more applications than ever for the police profession. Due to the many thousands of applications, it is possible for the executive to maintain the high intellectual, physical, but also social requirements for future executive employees.
A valuable tool for effective recruiting is the target group-savvy encounter and operate expectations:, for example, by addressing target groups through targeted content to social media, with less bureaucracy using modern online application (“one click”) or also personal conversation at the recruiting stand with honest and realistic exchange between interested and police officers. Proactive offering contact persons for interested applicants with women -specific questions is a central part of the Female Recruiting of the Federal Police, which also has an effect: Over 40 percent of trainees in the police schools are female in 2025.
Background: official officials
“Service” is the most important career path that inspectors can take rank and service after a certain time. The leap into the silver shoulder distinctions of the “batches”, as these are also mentioned, is achieved after a competitive selection test, in which one has to take off by specialist knowledge from the competitors, a subsequent training in the Security Academy and finally passed a passing examination, in which specialist knowledge and the suitability for this responsible task are proven to have a three -member commission must.
The official officials are the middle of the management structure of the federal police and the backbone when it comes to the professionally correct service and the efficient planning and organization in the daily service agency of this large wax body. With the ranks “District Inspector” to “Chief Inspector”, they are also the bridge between the senior civil servants (police officers) and the “assigned” employees, the inspectors of the patrol service equipped with red shoulder destinations.
The ranks of the criminal service – from the district police command to the state criminal offices to the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Office for the Protection of the Constitution – also largely consist of official officials. For this reason, the rank “service” or “service” is both important for the functioning of complex police work and an important step in career for many inspectors.
