Almdudler soda manufacturer Heribert Thomas Klein can be seen on Tuesday evening at 9:05 p.m. in the feature documentary “Pursued Love – The Men with the Pink Angle” on ORF2.
Vienna (OTS) – The new Universum History documentary tells the story of the young Viennese Josef Kohoutthe first homosexual concentration camp prisoner who made his story public and yet had to fight for decades for recognition as a victim of the Nazis.
The main actors Stefan Gorski as Josef Kohout, Michael Dangl as author Hanns Neumann and Markus Freistätter as Karl Fritzsch offer an impressive portrayal of this moving story. The Almdudler owner Heribert Thomas Klein takes on the role of Willi Kröpfl, Josef Kohout’s partner. “It was great to be a part of this project and to help tell Kohout’s story alongside so many talented professionals on behalf of all women and men who were persecuted by the Nazis because of their sexuality.”
says Heribert Thomas Klein about his involvement in the film.
Director Fritz Kalteis agrees with this: “The story of Josef Kohout is not just an individual fate, but represents the suffering that tens of thousands of men and women had to experience simply because they loved differently than the inhumane ideology of the National Socialists allowed. It is extremely important to tell and preserve these stories so that we never forget the injustice and cruelty that befell them. It fills me with great respect and gratitude that we can make a contribution to the culture of remembrance through this film.”
When asked about the collaboration with neo-actor Heribert Thomas Klein, Kalteis says: “I originally only approached Thomas about a small cameo because I knew him as one of the first major supporters of the Pride movement and wanted him in the film. But then it turned out that he had taken acting lessons himself at a young age – even with Dorothea Neff. Neff was a well-known actress who, as a lesbian woman, hid her Jewish friend Lili Wolf from the Nazis during the Nazi era. This has somehow come full circle. And of course Thomas – deservedly – got a bigger role.”
The universe history documentary “Persecuted Love – The Men with the Pink Triangle” will be released on May 21st at 9:05 p.m. on ORF2 broadcast for the first time. The co-production of V-Set and Feature Film with ORF and ZDF/ARTE in collaboration with ORF Enterprise is supported by TV Fund Austria, Film Fund Vienna and Culture Lower Austria.
