Almdudler & Alpine Club with Peter Habeler:

Joining forces for “Clean Mountains”

Vienna/Fieberbrunn (OTS)For 15 years now, we have been working tirelessly to raise awareness for the protection of the Austrian mountains. This year, our joint summit climb is again under the banner of our “Clean Mountains” campaign, because rubbish has no place in the mountains“, explain Ingrid Hayek, long-time former vice president of the Alpine Club, and Gerhard Schilling, managing director of Almdudler. This year, the hiking group led by “Clean Mountains” patron and mountaineering icon Peter Habeler went to the Wildseeloder (2,119 m) in the Kitzbühel Alps in Tyrol. “The majestic Austrian mountain landscape delights young and old from Austria and all over the world all year round. “It is therefore of great importance to reaffirm our shared commitment by signing the ‘Clean Mountains Manifesto’.”emphasize Hayek and Schilling together.

Call for more mindfulness in nature

Since 2009, the “Clean Mountains” initiative has ensured that dispensers for environmentally friendly waste bags are installed in Alpine club huts across the country, which can be used free of charge by all hikers and mountaineers. Since the founding of the “Clean Mountains” initiative, alpine legend Peter Habeler has acted as patron: “My special concern and my heartfelt wish to all mountain lovers is: Be careful with nature and think before you go into the mountains. This means, among other things, not only not throwing anything away, but also not taking unnecessary things with you in the first place. As an enthusiastic mountaineer, I want to lead by example and inspire other nature lovers.

Every individual who moves in nature must take responsibility. The Alps are a precious jewel that one must be aware of and that should remain as untouched as possible for many generations to come“, confirms Almdudler managing director Gerhard Schilling. Ingrid Hayek shares this view: “Many hikers and nature lovers don’t know what rubbish can do to nature if it’s not disposed of properly. They leave food scraps such as banana peels or tissues in the wild and wrongly assume that the natural waste will be recycled on its own. But that’s not the case: fruit residues take up to seven years to be used by nature and are dangerous for many animals.

Garbage must not remain on the mountain

Every individual can do their part to keep Austria’s mountains clean and free of rubbish. “The Alpine Club and we want to make collecting rubbish as easy as possible for hikers. They should take their rubbish with them as they descend into the valley and dispose of it properly“, erläutert Schilling. „It is very important to consistently draw attention to this issue. Keeping clean doesn’t just start on the mountain, but before the hike and with knowledge of the products you want to take with you on the mountain“, adds Hayek. You can often avoid unnecessary waste before the hike.

Almdudler & Alpine Club

Almdudler is Austrian lifestyle in a bottle and this feeling is inextricably linked to the naturalness of the local mountains. Almdudler is therefore committed to protecting the Austrian Alps and mountain pastures and has maintained a close partnership with the Alpine Association for many years. The free eco bags are available to all mountain lovers free of charge. “Since its birth in 1957, Almdudler has become a true original and Austrian national drink with its unique taste experience made from natural Alpine herbs – an important reason to protect the treasures of the local Alpine world“, emphasizes Schilling. “We are very happy to have a strong and authentic partner in Almdudler who takes on this topic and, with its large fan base, also has the opportunity to reach many people“, says Johannes Staud, marketing manager from the Alpine Club.
