In two construction stages, the first residential and care facility for blind and highly visual visual impaired people was built according to the model of house communities in the 14th district in Vienna. Diakoniewerk and Austrian blind welfare bundle their skills in ÖBW GemGmbH and convert this innovative residential model for people with blindness or high -grade visual impairment in old age. On April 23, 2025, the Johann-Wilhelm-Klein-Haus was ceremoniously opened under the presence of numerous guests of honor.
“Building and spatial planning as well as the color and light concept have been designed and implemented in such a way that blind or visual impaired people are supported in the best possible way in the best possible age and with dementia,” emphasizes Brigitte Fila MBA, managing director of ÖBW GemGmbH. “We lead the new house according to the model of house communities, which puts individuality and living quality in the foreground in a family atmosphere,” adds Mag. (FH) Stefan Marchewa, Managing Director of ÖBW GemGmbH, “Care and support are based on the personal needs of the residents: Inside.”
“In the new Johann-Wilhelm-Klein-Haus, the competencies in the accompaniment of blind and highly visible people, the innovative living and care concepts for people in old age as well as the competencies in the accompaniment of people with dementia are bundled under one roof-a win-win situation for everyone involved,” emphasizes the management duo Fila & Marchewa Unisono.
Model of house communities
People with high support and care needs meet this living and care concept as well as the special needs of people with dementia. For blind and highly visible people with care needs, an offer is created in the new house, which is unique in Austria.
Care, living and everyday design stand side by side equal.
14 people live in every house community. The majority of the residents: inside has a single room with an anteroom, bathroom and toilet. Generous common areas such as kitchen and living rooms are used by all residents: inside. Employees: Together with residents, the inside: inside the everyday life and accompany through the day. Technically trained employees: support inside with care and health requirements.
The Johann-Wilhelm-Klein-Haus is a recognized institution of the Social Estory Vienna fund, which can offer this unique performance in the form and capacity as the only federal state and support the residence of the residents: financially.
