Over 8% of all deaths and almost 5% of health expenditure in Austria can be attributed to obesity – and the trend is rising. People who suffer from high-risk obesity at the age of 45 lose almost 5 years of life and even up to 10 healthy years of life.
A new study by the Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) sheds light on the consequences of this chronic metabolic disease. It not only shows the follow-up costs for the health system, but also illustrates the personal burden on those affected.
Presented at the press conference Institute for Advanced Studies (IHS) the study results and the Austrian Obesity Alliance (ÖAA) provides further insights from practice in order to then discuss possible solutions to combat the obesity epidemic in Austria.
