Bands such as the Pixies, Depeche Mode or the Smiths are dad bands, i.e. music groups that were heard from 40 to 50-year-old men in their youth and whose music they still consider to be the only true one. This Thomas Gottschalk syndrome so-called by music psychologists comes about in the 60s, 70s and 80s through a misjudgment of the socialization effect of pop music. The music with which you grew up as a teenager who gave a community experience with the village disco – it is precisely this music that still transports an intensive affect experience today. Therefore, Dads tend to increase their music to the best music ever because new music does not give them the same experience. The Dads believe that the lack of quality of new music is due to the lack of quality; In fact, it is because they are no longer young people.
Dad band still has a meaning that the Cambridge Dicitionary describes as follows: “A group of Older men who play music together in a band.” Most of the time are the bands that have played together more or less successfully. Then they separated because they wanted to grow up. Many years later, they noticed that there is a gigantic market for Dad bands. This is mainly due to the algorithms of the music streaming, which now rinses bands in the earplugs that they did not know in their youth but would have liked to know. And suddenly these bands have a much larger audience than they ever had. Then the old men come together again and make a new album. The loft are such a band. Founded around 1980. Four young, somewhat introverted men, two guitars, a bass and drums, deeply influenced by the music of the 1960s. Her 1984 single “Why does the rain?” Was a respectable success in 1984. They went on tour as the opening act of The Coloubengeld. And got into the hair in a performance in the Hammersmith Palais that they still separated on stage in the best TIC-TAC-TE-manner. The individual members of the band continued to make music, but remained insider tips.
From 2006 the band released music again, in the new photos you can see four likeable, gray -haired or bald -headed Schluris. The new album is called “Everything Changes, Everything Stay the Same”. This is DAD music, which in the memories of the actual dad music from that time and pretend that it has always been there. Now with old men’s charm. Create a best-bearing song like “Feel Good Now”, which he promises in the title. And the song also gives a little wisdom to the dad music: “Think of all the good Things you’ve got/ The Future/ The Past/ The Past is a Tangled Knot”. The guitar reef song »Dr Clarke» sounds like a reminiscence on »Dr Robert« by the Beatles. And in the video you can see old men who smile in the camera with a lifelong wisdom and move carefully. The Loft’s new album is highly recommended if you want to feel like you used to be today, but on the conditions of today. Or so.
