Akcay (SPÖ)/Bakos (NEOS): Association checks on ‘Dar-al-Janub’ must be carried out by the Ministry of the Interior.

SPÖ and NEOS see the Office for the Protection of the Constitution as having a responsibility to take effective measures to keep Vienna safe and worth living in.

Vienna (OTS/SPW-K) “The second step cannot follow the first – it is clear that the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the Interior Minister are responsible for reviewing such cases,” says SPÖ local councilor and integration spokesperson Safak Akcay in response to the accusation that Mayor Michael Ludwig and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaal must take action here and the association must terminate the rental agreement. The allegations must first be checked by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and the association police. In both cases, the Ministry of the Interior is responsible.

NEOS local councilor and integration spokesperson Dolores Bakos said: “The social media accounts of the Dar-al-Janub association paint a more than worrying picture of current events in the Middle East. The following applies: Denying or questioning Israel’s right to exist in whatever form is to be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Providers and associations that represent this must be carefully checked. This is exactly why we have initiated an examination by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution, which is necessary in order to be able to initiate any consequences under tenancy law. A constitutional review can only be carried out in this order and not the other way around.”

“We stand in full solidarity with Israel and the victims of the latest act of terrorism. It is essential that we clearly and unequivocally condemn the acts of barbarism committed by Hamas. The core of the conflict lies in the existence of the Middle East conflict itself and Hamas shows no interest in a peaceful solution or reconciliation. Their goals are fundamentally different from those of the Palestinian population. As a human rights city of Vienna and as part of the Republic of Austria, which is firmly anchored in international law and human rights, it is our duty to unambiguously name such atrocities and take political action against them. We are committed to clear responsibilities and effective measures to keep our city safe and livable,” concluded Akcay.
