Aithyra Institute starts in the MarxBox in Vienna

Vienna (OTS) –

Aithyra, the new groundbreaking Institute for AI in the biomedicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW), is drawn to the first rooms in the MarxBox in Vienna Landstrasse. The institute is thus setting up in the middle of one of the largest life sciences hub in Europe. Immediate neighbor in the third district is the Vienna Biocenter, which, with its six leading research institutions, such as the IMBA – Institute for Molecular Biotechnology of the ÖAW, the GMI – Gregor Mendel Institute for Molecular Plant Biology of the ÖAW, or the Institute for Molecular Pathology (IMP), a unique combination of research, education and company only campus offers. 2,800 experts from 82 nations are already working here.

Aithyra’s claim is high. The institute and its founding director Michael Bronstein have set themselves the goal of developing AI-supported approaches in order to accelerate and change the biosciences. This approach will trigger a biological revolution in the next decade and is intended to improve human health. Aithyra will bring together the best of the academic area that bring industry and start-ups together and combine experts for AI and biosciences in a new way.

“Aithyra, as an important life sciences and AI location, will focus even more on the worldwide and thus also be a figurehead for Austria. The settlement of this unique institute proves what can arise if the organizations of the Austrian Federation and the City of Vienna are working on a common, advanced vision, ”said Business City Councilor Peter Hanke at the symbolic handover of the key to the institute. “My special thanks also go to the excellent cooperation with the Austrian Academy of Sciences.”

ÖAW President Heinz Faßmann says: “After the successful foundation of Aithyra, the institute is now getting its first home. The MarxBox is located in the vicinity of other excellent ÖAW institutes at the Vienna Biocenter and is therefore in the best company. The future equipment with a state -of -the -art robotics laboratory offers the best conditions. Today we create the place of origin of new, outstanding research results. “

In a first step, Aithyra receives around 1,000 m² of laboratory and office work space in the MarxBox, and two further floors are planned and equipped for the next growth phases in accordance with the requirements of the new research groups. The premises in the MarxBox by the Vienna Economic Agency are made available. In order to create optimal structures for the future, the Vienna Economic Agency, on behalf of the City of Vienna, will build a new laboratory and office building for Life Sciences companies in the immediate vicinity by 2029, in which Aithyra will move into an anchor tenant. Anita Ender, Managing Director of Aithyra, was involved in both the basic equipment of the MarxBox and the tender for the new Life Science building. “We want to create an exciting and inspiring work environment for a new generation of AI-Life Scientists. I would like to thank the city of Vienna, the Vienna Economic Agency and our parent company of the ÖAW to enable Aithyra to redesign. ”

Aithyra, the institute of the ÖAW, was launched on the initiative of the non -profit Boehringer Ingelheim Foundation in Mainz and will be financially relevant with 150 million euros over the next 12 years.
