From July 2024, the renowned battery researcher Professor Stefano Passerini will work as a senior expert advisor at AIT

Vienna (OTS) – In addition to his role at AIT, Stefano Passerini has also been a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) since January 2023. In 2023, he was a professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of La Sapienza in Rome, after resigning from his positions as professor at KIT and as co-director at the Helmholtz Institute Ulm.
His research focuses on the fundamental understanding and development of materials for high-energy batteries and supercapacitors with the aim of creating sustainable energy storage systems from environmentally friendly and available materials and processes.
He is an internationally recognized pioneer in the field of ionic liquids and the development of sodium-ion batteries. He has authored more than 700 scientific papers (Scopus H-index: 121; over 50,000 citations), contributed to several book chapters and holds numerous international patents. In 2012 he was awarded the Battery Division Research Prize of the Electrochemical Society.
Since 2015 he has been editor-in-chief of the Journal of Power Sources. In 2016 he was elected a Fellow of the International Society of Electrochemistry and in 2020 a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society Inc. He has been a member of the Leopoldina – National Academy of Sciences since 2019.
