Schönbühel-Aggsbach (OTS/LCG) – The effects of the rock slide on June 3, 2024, in which around 13,000 cubic meters of rock fell between the towns of Aggsbach-Dorf and Aggstein onto the B33 and the Danube cycle path, pose major challenges for the region. Among other things, the catering industry, fruit growers and local companies suffer due to the absence of cyclists.
Now Austria’s largest and most traditional inland shipping company is stepping in and connecting the popular excursion destinations to traffic again. After a short consultation with the Danube Lower Austria Tourism Managing Director Bernhard Schröder have the DDSG Blue Danube managing directors Wolfgang Fischer and Wolfgang Hanreich A spontaneous solution has now been found to bring cycling and leisure tourism back to the towns.
From today, Friday, and until the end of October 2024, the MS Austria of the DDSG Blue Danube will dock in Aggsbach-Dorf daily upstream and downstream at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m., if necessary, to bring hikers and cyclists to the idyllic Danube region to support tourism. The need is announced by raising the yellow signal flag. The prerequisite for the creation is a sufficiently high water level (250 in Kienstock). The Danube stations allow you to dock for free, meaning that short-haul tickets to Melk, Spitz or Krems are available from just 21 euros and up ddsg-blue-danube.at can be booked.
