Looking back at a success story
Vienna (OTS) – 40 years ago, a team at Vienna General Hospital and MedUni Vienna successfully carried out the first heart transplant (HTX) in Vienna. This operation laid the foundation for one of the largest and most successful HTX programs in Europe. Since this first transplant in Vienna, numerous milestones have been achieved, innovative concepts developed and new technologies introduced. Whether it’s about bridging to transplantation, organ preservation, immunosuppression or personalized long-term follow-up care – all of these developments have not only significantly improved survival on the waiting list, but above all also the quality of life after a heart transplant.
A press conference will take place on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 10:00 a.m.
