The devastating storms of the last few weeks, with communities literally flooded, have fueled discussions about water again. Austrian agriculture has recorded over 200 million euros in damage from hail, heavy rain or drought, i.e. water-related damaging events, in 2024 alone.
In addition, there are increasingly heated debates about the supply of drinking water, the need to expand renewable energy such as hydropower and stronger measures for renaturation, for example of drained moor areas. The issue of water in its various facets is omnipresent and highly political.
University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences as a program partner
Die „Austrian consumer dialogues“ will take place for the sixth time on October 9th & 10th, 2024 at the Working World Museum in Steyr, and for the first time they will deal with the topic of water. In collaboration with the five water institutes of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, the COMÚN Foundation has designed an extensive program for this purpose.
