Less than two hours of car from Vienna is a unique cultural treasure that is worth a visit: Alfons Muchas Slavic epic – a monumental cycle of 20 large -format paintings that represent the history of the Slavic peoples. The exhibition is located in Moravský Krumlov Castle. The audio guide to the Slavic epic was discussed in German by Thadeus Salvator Habsburg-Lorraine.
Alfons Muchthe world -famous Art Nouveau painter, known primarily through his posters for Sarah Bernhardt or his interior for the Paris Expo 1900. He regarded the Slavic epic as his life’s work. Its paintings, which reach monumental dimensions of up to 6 × 8 meters, were created between 1910 and 1928. The cycle is not only the Czech history, but also the stories of other Slavic peoples – for example Serbs or Poland – and emphasizes the ideas of peace, freedom and mental strength.
The exhibition in Moravský Krumlov (Moravian Krumau) is not only in terms of content, but also spatially unique – the large halls of the castle form a worthy setting for Mucha’s vision. Visitors will have a strong emotional and aesthetic experience that will address art, history and cultural lovers. Moravský Krumlov is part of the Mucha path. It connects places associated with the life and work of Alfons Mucha. The descendants of Alfons Mucha – grandson John Mucha and great -grandson Marcus Mucha – visit Moravský Krumlov.
Moravský Krumlov is located in the beautiful landscape of southern Moravia, a region that is known for its vineyards, romantic cities and excellent wines. A visit to the Slavic epic can be combined with a weekend trip or an exploration of local gastronomy.
The exhibition is open all year round, every day except on Mondays. Guided tours are offered in several languages, including in German. Guided tours can be booked for larger groups.
