“A room full of computer scientists. I don’t know that from everyday life.”

The empowerHER+ conference aims to give people a powerful voice:

“A room full of computer scientists. I don’t know that from everyday life.”

Quote from a student who is about to start her professional life.

An imbalance? We say: more than that.

+The proportion of women in the German IT industry is just 30 percent.

+According to the Federal Statistical Office, only around 32 percent of women complete a technical degree.

+In computer science studies it is even lower: 21 percent.

A deficit that goes beyond the gender debate and has noticeable effects on our entire society:

  • If only one group of people drives technical innovations, future technology will primarily only be able to reflect one group.
  • We have a serious shortage of skilled workers and in order to overcome this, we have to involve everyone.

empowerHER+ conference

Essentially, it’s about specifically attracting women and other underrepresented groups to the IT industry and ensuring greater diversity in the tech sector. The experts on stage take the audience on a deep dive into current research and future topics.

Among the renowned speakers include, among others:

Lajla Fetic (appliedAI Institute for Europe gGmbH) shares her insights into how and under what conditions technology can make society stronger.

Dr. Clemens Striebing (Fraunhofer IAO) explains how different perspectives produce innovations.

Dr. Jiska Classen (HPI) reports on her work as an IT security researcher at HPI, where she trains the next generation of cybersecurity experts.

Also Sina Jurkowlaniec, Initiator of the conference, supports the central aim of this conference with a network character:

“In this dynamic and clever community, we don’t want to focus on deficits, but rather take action: develop solutions for the challenges of our time – supported by people who create great things through their diversity.”
