Vienna (OTS) – In this year’s trend TOP employer ranking, the Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group (FMTG) secured victory in the tourism category. With 31st place in the overall ranking, the Austrian tourism group was also named Rising Star of the Year. The company has been relying on modern, high-quality employee training and attractive retention programs for many years and has successfully inspired experts and young talents to pursue a career in tourism.
The business magazine trend, in cooperation with Statista, kununu and Xing, has once again identified the 300 best employers in Austria this year. The Falkensteiner Michaeler Tourism Group won the title of TOP Employer 2024 in the tourism category. But that’s not all – out of 1,400 companies assessed, FMTG reached 31st place in the overall ranking, making it the newcomer of the year.
„A great award and important feedback for us as an employer, because it comes directly from our employees
“, says Erich Falkensteiner, chairman of the FMTG supervisory board, about the good rating. The study asked employees, among other things, their willingness to recommend their own employer. And that’s big at FMTG. “Many applications come from our employees who actively recommend FMTG as an employer in their environment. The best advertising for us
“, says Otmar Michaeler, CEO of FMTG.
Diversity of tourism
The FMTG shows very well how diverse a career in tourism can be. The company combines a wide range of competencies from five areas of hospitality – hotel operations, development, consulting, investing and camping. “Even as an internationally active tourism group with around 2,000 employees, we are still a family business with strong cohesion
“, explains Erich Falkensteiner.
Michaeler also emphasizes the rapid advancement opportunities that the team has within the tourism group: “Our motto is: support and challenge! Anyone who wants to and gets involved will receive full support and can build a career with us very quickly. And I am convinced that there is no industry in which you can make a career as quickly as tourism
“
Attractive benefits and further training opportunities
In addition to the very attractive hotel and office locations, the group caters to the diverse needs of its employees. Flexible working time models, personal development opportunities – and holidays in hotels are particularly in demand here. “We also offer our teams regular training, individual career coaching and interactive workshops
“, explains Michaeler. There is also a wide range of different benefits – with group-wide advantages, such as attractive rates for the hotels and specific regional offers at the respective locations.
At its hotel locations, the company impresses with modern employee accommodation, included healthy meals, various sports and leisure activities, stylish work outfits, working hours as desired, and much more.
A voluntary tipping allowance was also introduced. If this is okay with the guest, a tip of 10 euros will be added per night and room. The flat rate allows guests to tip easily and conveniently – employees not only benefit from a higher tip, but also from a fair distribution within the team.
There is a particular focus on young talent
The tourism group places a particular focus on young people. FMTG is currently training 34 apprentices – the so-called Falkensteiner Youngstars – in its hotels and residences. The trend is increasing. The company offers its young talent a variety of events, training and coaching to promote their personal and professional development, including the Youngstar Team Days, programs such as “Boss for one day” and “Let’s talk & Business Etiquette”, as well as the “Youngstar Win Win” conflict resolution program. In addition, participation in national and international competitions is actively supported and financed. But not only the social skills of the apprentices are strengthened and promoted, but also those of the trainers in numerous further training courses.
Live core values
For Erich Falkensteiner, company values also play a major role: “We have always been courageous, have remained down-to-earth over the years and treat our counterparts with respect. This has enabled us to build strong partnerships over the years – both inside and outside the company
“And this is also reflected in the above-average length of time that employees stay in the company – in the seasonal hotels the return rate is around 70%. “There is a saying at Falkensteiner: Either you stay for two months or you stay forever – even if you come back after stops at other companies
“, Michaeler is pleased about the teams’ loyalty to the company.
Future industry hospitality
The desire to travel is crisis-resistant and vacation is a basic need for many people. The longing for time in intact nature also continues to increase. There is great potential here for tourism as a future industry. Otmar Michaeler is convinced that this also applies to a career in hospitality: “The hotel industry has learned from the mistakes of the past. A career in tourism is cool again
!“
